Assignment 1 | Sound Design

Sound considerations

After discussing my storyboard with some classmates I recognised that my video can be broken up into two main parts with the sound playing a key part in showing the transition between each.

The beginning relies on fast-paced, excited and frantic energy to materialise some of the actions and movements and to enhance the believability. I want the audiance to feel rushed or disorganised with me. Because this section will rely on matching the music up with some of the cuts or actions the synchronicity will be essential to creating immersion/engagement. I feel like to make the editing most effective I should plan to make the music first then edit my clips, but I'm not sure I'm a skilled enough musician to make the music without refferance so I might end up shooting a mock vertion, edit the timing, composing a soundtrack to the mock then shooting the real one. tidious but mroe reliable for me. To accentuate the dramatization I'll try to use more sound effects and use repetitive and staccato piano. I also recognised that while the piano is non-diegetic for most of this video I might be able to J-cut the audio into a piano scene making the music diegetic for a short scene.

In the second section, it will depend on a tranquil and relaxed atmosphere. To drastically change the tone like this is reliant on a strong soundtrack and a seamless and well-planned transition. I am aiming for a relaxed and relieved emotional responce

If I get practicing soon😬 I might be able to create a song with a switch in time signatures meaning the tempo and pacing can switch between sections, emphasising the contrast.
